Doe Normaal: Terms of Use

Last updated: 25 October 2026

Doe Normaal is an app for practising Dutch, made by Codeswept LLC ("we", "us"). These terms are the agreement between you and us about using the app. By using the app, you agree to them.

The short version: the app is free, the people in it are made up, please use it fairly, and you can stop and delete your account whenever you like.

Who can use the app

You need to be at least 16 years old to use Doe Normaal; some content is about dating.

Your account

  • When you first open the app, an anonymous account is created automatically, so your progress can be saved.
  • You can sign in with email to use your progress on more than one device. Keep your password to yourself; you are responsible for what happens with your account.
  • You can delete your account at any time in the app, in the Ik tab, under Account settings.

The content

All people, dating profiles, chats and polls in the app are fictional. Any resemblance to real people is a coincidence. The photos are AI-generated and do not show real people.

The content is meant to be funny and plays with Dutch habits and clichés. It is a way to practise Dutch, not a complete course: we do our best to get the language and the explanations right, but we can't promise that everything is complete or free of mistakes.

Using the app fairly

Please don't:

  • copy, scrape or resell the content, or use it to build another product or train AI models;
  • reverse engineer the app, except where the law allows it;
  • overload our servers, get around their security or rate limits, or access the service other than through the app;
  • use the app for anything illegal.

Our content and your licence

The app, its texts, characters, exercises, design and photos belong to us or to those who licensed them to us. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the app on your own devices, for your own, non-commercial use, as long as you follow these terms.

The app is free

Doe Normaal is currently free to use. We keep improving it, so features and content may be added, changed or removed. We try to keep the app available, but it may sometimes be offline, for example for maintenance.

Liability

To the extent the law allows, the app is provided "as is", and we are not liable for indirect damage or for losing your progress.

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for damage caused intentionally or through gross negligence, or the rights you have as a consumer under mandatory law.

Ending

You can stop using the app and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or delete an account that breaks these terms. We may also stop offering the app; if we do, we will tell you in advance where we can.

Privacy

How we handle your data is explained in our Privacy Policy at codeswept.com/doenormaal/privacy (also linked in the app: Ik → Privacybeleid).

App Store and Google Play

If you downloaded the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play, their terms also apply. These terms are between you and us only, not Apple or Google. We, not Apple or Google, are responsible for the app and its support.

If you use the app on an Apple device: Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app, and is not responsible for any claims relating to it. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms, for example when we add new features. We will change the date at the top, and tell you in the app if a change is important. If you keep using the app after a change, the new terms apply.

Applicable law

These terms are governed by Dutch law. Disputes go to the competent court in the Netherlands. If you are a consumer in the European Union, you keep the protection of the mandatory law of the country where you live, and you can also go to the court there.
